PRELUDE & QUIET MEDITATION  [Congregational Responses are in BOLD]

God led the Messiah through suffering into risen life, and took him up to the glory of heaven.  God can clothe us with the power promised from on high, and send us forth to the ends of earth as witnesses of repentance and witnesses of Jesus Christ, firstborn from the dead.

"I Call to Thee, Lord Jesus Christ"

--  J. S. Bach

PASSING THE PEACE OF CHRIST  [Congregational Responses are in BOLD]

The Peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Let us extend the right hand of Christian fellowship to our neighbors.

*HYMN #150

"Come, Christians, Join to Sing"

*CALL TO WORSHIP  [Psalm 47]

Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with loud songs of joy.

For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome, a great King over all the earth.

He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet.

He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.

Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praise.  For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm.

God is King over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.

The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham.  For the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted.

Let us worship our God.

Gracious God, in the company of our people, we confess our sins to you.  We have been angry and impatient, complaining about the faults of others, and failing to see our own.  We have been lazy and selfish, neglecting the interests of others, and pursuing our own.  We have been faithless and unworthy, ignoring the strength  you offer and relying upon our own.  God of mercy, you have promised your grace to those who truly repent.  Help us to accept your forgiveness, and dwell in us by your Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.  [Followed by a moment of silent prayer.]

Our assurance is this:  “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.  . . . For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do.”  God sent the Savior, who redeems us of all unworthiness.  Know that you are forgiven and be at peace.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.  Let us forgive one another.  Amen.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH  [“This is the Good News . . . “]

This is the Good News which we have received, in which we stand, and by which we are saved, if we hold it fast:  that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third  day,  and  that he  appeared first  to the women,

then to Peter, and to the twelve, and then to many faithful witnesses.  We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.  Jesus Christ is the first and the last, the beginning and the end; he is our Lord and our God.  Amen.

HYMN  #306

"Fairest Lord Jesus"

OUR LORD’S PRAYER  [Matthew 6:9-13]

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our  debtors;  and  lead  us not into temptation,  but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.  Amen.

"Crown Him with Many Crowns"
