PRELUDE

"Preluce and Fugue in E Minor"

-- J. S. Bach

WELCOME

The Rev. Joseph T. Fields, Jr.

*CALL TO WORSHIP  [Joel 2:12-16]

Leader:  Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your heart

People:  With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning;

Leader:  Rend your  hearts and not your clothing.

People:  Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful,

Leader:  Slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and relents from punishing.

People:  Who knows whether he will not turn and relent,

Leader:  And leave a blessing behind him,

People:  A grain offering and a drink offering for the Lord, your God?

Leader:  Blow the trumpet in Zion; sanctify a fast; call a solemn assembly; gather people.

People:  Sanctify the congregation; assemble the aged; gather the children.

INVOCATION

The Rev. Dr. Ron Naylor

*HYMN #80

"Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley"

LITANY OF CONFESSION

Leader:  Have mercy on us, O God, have mercy on us.

People:  We have many treasures on earth that we hold too dearly;

                that we withhold from others in need.

Leader:  When we sin against  neighbor, condone injustice, and quarrel with one another,

                we sin against you.

People:  Forgive us we pray, for we are broken in spirit.

Leader:  Do not see our faults, and do not go away from us.

People:  Keep us always in your presence so that we may be restored to the joy of your salvation.

Leader:  Sustain us with a willing spirit to treasure what you desire;

All:         Then our hearts will be opened in joy and gladness.  In Jesus Christ, our Treasure and

                our Hope, we pray.  Amen.
