PRELUDE & QUIET MEDITATION  [Congregational Responses are in BOLD]

Today we celebrate the 241st anniversary of the founding of our beloved Country.  In an era where it may not be politically correct to celebrate God and Country within a religious setting, we come today to honor and thank Almighty God for the blessing that is our Country.

GATHERING AROUND THE WORD

PRELUDE

GREETING & ANNOUNCEMENTS

PASSING THE PEACE OF CHRIST

The Peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Let us extend the right hand of Christian fellowship to our neighbors.

*HYMN #564

"O Beautiful for Spacious Skies"

*CALL TO WORSHIP  [Psalm 13]

How long, O Lord?  Will you forget me forever?  How long will you hide your face from me?

How long must I bear pain in my soul, and have sorrow in my heart all day long?  How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

Consider and answer me, O Lord my God!  Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,

And my enemy will say, “I have prevailed”; my foes will rejoice because I am shaken.

But I trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.

I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt beautifully with me.  I will remember the works of the Lord, and call to mind your wonder of old time.

Let us worship our God.

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O God, on lonely Mount Moriah you put your servant Abraham to the test.  We confess we have failed much lesser tests of our faith.  We have allowed sin to run our lives, to shape how we act toward others, and to kill our relationship with you.  In your great mercy, forgive us.  Change even our bodies from implements of destruction to instruments of peace; for the sake of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.  [Followed by a moment of silent prayer.]

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

God, whose name is I AM, provides for our weakness, Jesus Christ, I AM in the body, gave himself for our salvation.  All who are united to Christ in his death are united to Christ in his resurrection.  The end is eternal life.  I declare to you, in Jesus Christ you are forgiven.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.  Let us forgive one another.  Amen.

RESPONDING TO THE WORD

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH [“The Apostles' Creed”]

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.  We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made.  For us and for our Salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human.  For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.  On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;  he  ascended  into  heaven and is seated on the right hand of the Father.  He  will come again in glory to judge the living  and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.  We  believe  in  the  Holy  Spirit,  the  Lord,  the  giver  of  life,  who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son  is  worshiped  and   glorified,    who  has  spoken  through  the prophets.  We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.  We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.  Amen.

THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION

Invitation to the Lord’s Table.

The Great Prayer of Thanksgiving.

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give thanks and praise.

It is truly right and our greatest joy to give you thanks and praise,  . . .

. . .  Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with angels and archangels and with all the faithful of every time and place, who forever sing to the glory of your name:

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.  Hosanna in the highest.  Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.  Hosanna in the highest.

Accept this, our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving as a living and holy offering of ourselves, that our lives may proclaim the One crucified and risen.  Great is the mystery of faith:

Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ will come again.

OUR LORD’S PRAYER  [Matthew 6:9-13]

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our  debtors;  and  lead  us not into temptation,  but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.  Amen.

Breaking of the Bread.

Communion of the people.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Loving God, we thank you that you have fed us in this Sacrament, united us with Christ, and given us a foretaste of the heavenly banquet in your eternal kingdom.  Send us out in the power of your Holy Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
